  • 1/2 cups toasted hazelnuts, crushed
  • 7 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups half and half ( or use whole milk)
  • 1/2 cup real maple syrup (divided)
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 1 tsp vanilla)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Zest of one small orange
